Workshops FAQ

BroadwayCon attendees who wish to observe a workshop but are not interested in participating will need to submit a workshop application. Please select “Observe” instead of “Participate.” Adults accompanying minors do not need to submit an application in order to observe a workshop their child is participating in.

What do I need to prepare for my application?

The application form will ask you to choose which workshops you’d like to be considered for, whether you’d like to participate or observe in each class, and to rank these roles based on your order of preference. You will then be asked to submit videos of yourself performing either a non-musical scene, a song, or a dance. If you are applying to multiple workshops, we strongly encourage submitting videos that match the style of the workshop.

For more information on how to upload a video to YouTube, click here.

Is there a limit to the number of workshops I can apply for?

There is no limit to the number of workshops you can apply for. However, we do ask that you only apply for workshops that you really want to attend.

How are attendees chosen for workshops?

Workshop participants are chosen based on a review of their application materials by the BroadwayCon staff. The criteria for selection may be different for each workshop and is determined in conference with the Industry Professional who is teaching the workshop.

If I am accepted into a workshop but it is not my top choice, can I trade in my acceptance so that I can go to my top choice workshop?

No, we cannot trade workshops. All workshops have a limited capacity which will be filled through the application process. Workshop acceptances are not transferrable.

Why is workshop attendance limited?

The number of participants will be determined by the teaching artist and based on how much time they want to spend with each performer. The number of observers will be limited based on space constraints and in order to create an intimate, safe environment for the participants.

Am I allowed to arrive late/leave early from a workshop?

In order to allow for minimum disruption to the workshop, there is a strict policy of no late entry into workshops. All participants and observers must arrive early to allow for time to check in prior to the scheduled starting time.

Attendees may leave a workshop early if they wish. However, there will be no re-entry allowed.

Can workshop acceptances be transferred to someone else?

No, due to the application screening process, we cannot allow workshop acceptances to be transferred.

Are parents allowed to observe their children in workshops?

Attendees under the age of 18 may bring one adult to supervise them during the workshops. The adult should not submit an application if they do not wish to participate. Those who are accompanying a minor should check in at the door with said minor.

Can I observe a workshop?

BroadwayCon attendees who wish to observe a workshop but are not interested in participating will need to submit a workshop application. Please select “Observe” instead of “Participate.” Adults accompanying minors do not need to submit an application in order to observe a workshop their child is participating in.

Do I need to submit an audition video if I am only applying for observation?

No, applicants to observe a workshop do not need to submit an application video, but doing so may give you a better chance of being selected.

If I’m selected to observe, is there a chance I’ll be chosen to participate?

All observers willing to participate should come prepared just in case a participant does not arrive and forfeits their spot. Workshops featuring an individual performance element will also have alternates selected in advance.

Do I need to have a ticket to BroadwayCon before applying for a workshop?

Yes. Workshop applications are only open to ticketed BroadwayCon attendees. You must have a ticket for the date of your workshop in order to attend the workshop.

I expect to get a BroadwayCon ticket as a holiday gift, will I still be able to apply for workshops?

Yes, workshop applications will be open until Friday, January 5, 2018. Please wait until after you receive your BroadwayCon ticket and are able to provide the order number before applying.

I have a Gold Pass for BroadwayCon. Does this grant me priority access to workshops?

All BroadwayCon attendees are given an equal opportunity of being accepted for workshops. Selection is based on their application materials and the type of ticket will not be considered.

I have a Platinum Pass for BroadwayCon. Does this grant me priority access to workshops?

All BroadwayCon attendees are given an equal opportunity of being accepted for workshops. Selection is based on their application materials and the type of ticket will not be considered.

Can I pay money to guarantee myself a space in the workshops?

BroadwayCon workshops are included in the price of the BroadwayCon ticket. There are no extra fees for workshops and we cannot be bribed.

May I edit my application after submission?

Yes. Please use the link provided in your confirmation email to access your application and make edits. All edits must be submitted before the application deadline in order to be considered.

When will acceptances be sent?

Attendees will be notified of their acceptances by Monday, January 15, 2018.

If I am not accepted into a workshop, is there a waiting list?

There is no online waiting list for workshops. Attendees are welcome to join the on-site standby line but admission cannot be guaranteed.

Please note: You must have a signed waiver of liability to participate in a dance/athletic workshop. This waiver will be distributed with your acceptance materials.

Auto/Photo FAQ

How does the autograph and photobooth lottery work?

While autograph and photograph sessions are included in the cost of a BroadwayCon ticket, space is limited and admission is granted only via the online lottery. Attendees will be asked choose the sessions they wish to attend and rank them in order of preference. The winners for each session are then randomly chosen via a computer algorithm. Your chances of winning each session are independent and you are not guaranteed a session. In other words, you may win multiple sessions or you may win no sessions.

If I purchased tickets for multiple people at the same time, do each of us need to fill out the form or is one entry sufficient for all tickets under the same order number?

Every individual ticket holder will need to fill out the form separately if they are interested in autographs or photographs. We understand that there will be multiple entries with the same order number, please differentiate each entry using a different name for each ticket holder.

Can I pay to guarantee myself ticket to an autograph or photobooth session?

Autograph and photobooth sessions are included in the price of your BroadwayCon ticket. There are no additional fees for these sessions and neither the BroadwayCon staff nor the computer can be bribed.

Are autograph and photobooth tickets transferable?

Autograph and photobooth tickets are not transferable. They can only be used by the winner of the session.

If I win a ticket for an autograph, how many items can I have signed?

With each ticket, only one item per guest is allowed to be signed.

If there are multiple people at the same session, can I have them each sign something different?

Yes, different guests can sign different things. We only ask that this does not slow down the process! You should have everything ready to be signed when you walk up to the table out of respect for both our special guests and other attendees’ time. However, each special guest can sign only one item.

Will you provide the item for the guest to sign or should I bring an item?

BroadwayCon will not provide headshots or other items for you to have signed so we suggest you bring something. The BroadwayCon Marketplace will also have many items for sale that you may wish to have signed by our special guests. However, we will supply the sharpies (black or silver ink only, please plan your item accordingly)!

May parents and children wait in line together for autograph and photobooth sessions, even if they do not both have a ticket?

Attendees under the age of 18 may bring one adult with them through the autograph or photograph line. However, for autograph sessions only one person may go up to the signing table and the one item per ticket rule still applies. For all photograph sessions, a ticket is good for one photo with a max of 3 people, we ask that only one parent or guardian who will not be included in the photo wait in line with groups of attendees under the age of 18. Medical aides are permitted to accompany the attendee in all circumstances.

How many people can be in each photo?

Each ticket to a photobooth is good for one photo. You have the choice to take the photo alone or with a maximum of two friends. If you plan to bring a group, ONE person must have a ticket to the session. Of course, if you bring friends to the photobooth, no one in your group will receive an individual photo.

I expect to get a BroadwayCon ticket as a holiday gift, will I still be able to enter the lottery for autographs and photobooths?

Yes, lottery submissions will be open until Friday, January 5, 2018. Please wait until after you receive your BroadwayCon ticket and are able to provide the order number before submitting.

If there are two sessions I would like to attend during same time slot, is it possible to attend both?

Because we limited the number of tickets to each session, you should be able to make it to both. However, we recommend that you try to be early to the line you care most about, and then join the end of your second choice.

Will I be able to edit my lottery choices after submission?

Yes. Please use the link provided in your confirmation email to access your submission and make edits. All edits must be submitted before the January 5th deadline in order to be considered.

When will tickets be sent?

Autograph and photograph session tickets will be sent via email on January 15th, 2018.

I have a Platinum Pass for BroadwayCon. Do I need to enter the lottery?

Platinum Pass holders are guaranteed front-of-line access at ALL autograph and photograph sessions. You do not need to enter the lottery. However, please note that you must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled end of the session to be allowed access. While you may bring friends with you to be in your photo, the one-item per guest rule does apply and you will only be allowed through each line one time. You may not use your Platinum Pass to grant access to a session for a friend. Any questions regarding the autograph and photograph process should be directed to your BroadwayCon Concierge (concierge@broadwaycon.com).

I have a Gold Pass for BroadwayCon. Do I need to enter the lottery?

Every Gold Pass holder is guaranteed their choice of 3 autographs or photographs. If you are interested in additional autographs and photos, then you will need to enter the lottery. Please note that you will not be allowed more than one ticket for any given session. Your BroadwayCon Concierge will reach out to you via email by December 10th with instructions on how to choose your 3 guaranteed sessions. You can reach the BroadwayCon Concierge by emailing concierge@broadwaycon.com.

Do I need to print my ticket or can I show it on my phone?

In order for the process to move as quickly and as smoothly as possible, you must have your ticket printed. We will be scanning the barcode and this works better on paper. This also prevents you from not having enough battery to show your ticket.

When should I line up?

Attendees who have a ticket to the autograph or photograph session may line up in the Audience Rewards® Autograph and Photograph Area no more than 15 minutes prior to the start of the session. There is no need to line up early and lines that begin earlier will not be honored. Everyone who receives a ticket via lottery will be granted access to the appropriate session. However, it is recommended that you line up closer to the beginning of the autograph session rather than the end. You must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled end of the session to be allowed access.

Will I be able to give a gift to the guest?

All gifts should be given to the BroadwayCon staff before you go up to meet the special guest. We will give them their collection of gifts after their session. Please do not bring food items as a gift, as these cannot be accepted.

If a person engages in harassing behavior, BroadwayCon Staff will take prompt action in any form they deem appropriate, including expulsion from BroadwayCon with no refund and contacting the appropriate authorities.

We understand that our attendees may be cosplaying as characters who carry weaponry. All attendees agree to abide by our Weapons Policy as well as any policies enacted by the Javits Center.
